Mubassirah Khatri

Mubassirah is a proud Ajrakh Blockprint Artisan, Artist & Designer who is both honouring and reimagining tradition.  She comes from the famous Ajrakhpur in Kutch (Gujarat) one of the 3 centers globally known for Ajrakh. A form of block printing that is both complicated and technical & uses natural dyes. She grew up in the heart of this ancient craft and was captivated by the intricate patterns and vibrant colours of the fabric that her father created. Mubassirah’s father and brother are themselves highly regarded artisans. 

Ajrakh Blockprinting is typically male dominated, Mubassirah is the first female block printer in the region. Ajrakh is a way of life & she is honored to be carrying on this rich tradition. Mubassirah finds inspiration in the imperfections of life, the beauty of nature, and the stories that are woven into every piece. Her designs tell a unique story, reflecting the heritage of her community and the artistry of her hands and those of her ancestors. She combines traditional blocks, contemporary blocks and free hand painting to design & create complex and exquisite pieces. Her work has a soulful quality, energy & depth.

Mubissarah recently graduated from Somaiya Kala Vidya, which offers design and business education for artisans of Kutch. She is the recipient of multiple awards including, Most Innovative Entrepreneur from the Kaarigar Clinic & Young Artisan by the Crafts Council of Telangana. She is one of 10 shortlisted nominees for the Loewe Craft Prize India 2025. Her work is sold internationally and she has exhibited in Bombay and other parts of India.
